Our Team

MELISSA D KERN, MD

Melissa D. Kern, M.D. opened her pediatric ophthalmology practice in Arlington and Sterling in 1996. She was the first fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist in Loudoun County.

Dr. Kern graduated from Harvard University and Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at Tufts/New England Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine and a two-year fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California School of Medicine.

Dr. Kern's clinical interests include pediatric glaucoma, congenital and acquired pediatric cataract, retinopathy of prematurity and strabismus. Dr. Kern is a clinical associate professor at Howard University Hospital and has a faculty appointment at Georgetown University Hospital. She lives in Washington, DC, with her husband and two children.

SALMA K. CHAUDHRI, MD

Dr. Chaudhri joined our practice in November 2011.

Dr. Chaudhri graduated from the University of California and Eastern Virginia Medical School.  She completed her residency in ophthalmology at University of Florida and her fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the University of California, San Diego.  She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Chaudhri insterests include pediatric and adult strabismus, pediatric cataract, and retinopathy of prematurity.  She lives in McLean, Virginia with her husband.

The Practice

Arlington Loudoun Pediatric Ophthalmology, the practice of Melissa D. Kern, M.D. is devoted to the eye health of infants and children. She is a highly trained specialist in the medical and surgical correction of congenital eye diseases, such as cataracts, strabismus, ptosis and various vision-threatening conditions affecting children of all ages.

Our practice strives to provide a welcoming environment for children and their families. Every effort is made by the doctor and her staff to address all concerns during the visit. The dialogue between doctor and parent is an important part of the overall treatment plan for each child.

Our team consists of compassionate individuals who are kind, friendly and caring. Our staff is here to ensure a smooth process through your eye examination.
